Dr. Poongothai has a  background in psychology and yoga. She has a rich experience in stress management and has delivered lectures on stress management and therapy. She has extensive experience in studying the relationships between depression, impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes and its complications and has published more than 45 papers in national and international journals. Dr Poongothai has completed a large study looking at diabetes and depression funded by NIH  and  also studied the  impact of Yoga on Diabetes and Depression funded by Ministry of AYUSH.

She provides stress management counselling to individuals and provides support in developing the skills necessary for integrating stress management practices  into daily life by yoga and pranayama. Her core competencies include providing behavioural counselling to  various mental health issues like  stress, depression, anxiety and cognitive decline.
