    Fear - Addressing Fear

    How do you address your fear? That is, how do you overcome avoiding a situation due to your fear? For example, if you have a fear of flying due to anxiety, What do you do to overcome it?

      By using cognitive behavioural technique to rationalise my fears ,mindful mediation exercises,setting small milestones in baby steps . I will keep trying until I accomplish my first step which whereby I will progress to the next step and so fort

      I try to understand why am I afraid of the situation (Qn 1) and see if I can change my interpretation of the situation. After that, I will try to face the Fear using Gradual Exposure Technique as taught in CBT Training. If its related to health concern, I try my best to accept that as we aged, we will start to have problems with our health. I try to focus instead on what I can do about my concern to improve my health instead.

      I think getting affirmations from people helps. I catastrophize quite a bit so having someone tell me that the worse case scenario is not going to happen helps.

      I found it hard to overcome the fear of financial insecurity and poverty. What I try to do is to save more and spend less.

      For height phobia: just bear with the physical symptoms, breathing exercises. For night terrors: sleep with lights on, sleep with pet, turn on TV.

      I have fear of washing hair myself probably due to alopecia patches of bald patches n seeing little chuncks of hair falling off n fear of being bald. I will go hair salon to wash my hair once.in a while to counter my fear

      I address my fear by facing it and using medications. For my fear of flying, I take a medication to calm me down before flying. For my fear of hallucination and nightmares, I take medications for sleep and antipsychotics that helped stop my hallucinations. So I faced them with the help of medication.
